Entrance to the Coronado Ferry circa 1960

Not a lot of folks left who remember the "Ker-thunk, bump, bump" as you drove onto the ferry to cross the bay in the days before the Coronado Bridge.  If you're downtown and someone asks you how to get to the Coronado Ferry don't tell them it quit running in 1969.  The current "ferry" takes pedestrians and bicycles only.
 RIDE THE FERRY
Click HERE to watch a 3-minute movie I took in the days before iPhone videos.  We take the ferry boat Crown City to Coronado and North Island where my childhood buddy, Marine Corps pilot Ken Ptack removes gear from his Grumman A-6A Intruder.  The date is July 19, 1969.  The last ferry sailed on August 2, 1969.  The Coronado Bridge opened for business the next day.
