A 1950s photo from the SDSU archives
I grew up on Montezuma
Road so College Restaurant was close by and a favorite place to
eat. My mom would pretend she forgot to take meat out of the
freezer (no microwaves in the 1950s) so off we would go to eat a
delicious fried chicken dinner at the College Restaurant. Mr.
Shirts, the owner, would always stop by our table to chit-chat with
us. When my husband and I bought a home in the outskirts of
college area, we would enjoy Sunday breakfast at the College
Restaurant. Their homemade cinnamon buns were delicious. If
you ordered their huge, delicious pancakes, they would place a small,
metal container that housed melted butter to pour on your pancakes and a
pitcher of maple syrup - yum! Lots of good eating memories!
As the news article stated, it was not gourmet food, but delicious
"comfort" food. Thanks for sharing — Judy Lyle MacInnes ’62.
We used to eat at the College Restaurant frequently on Sundays. Here is a photo of me on one such Sunday — Joel R. Dennstedt ’67

OH GOSH
- - It must have been the College Restaurant we went to for my dad to
get liver and onions after we kids complained about mom making it in the
house! I knew we went somewhere, but I didn't realize, until just
now, that it most likely was The College Restaurant! -- Patty Bremner Brubaker '72
