I
remember my dad growing a mustache
for the Fiesta. I remember going down to
Balboa Stadium for the festivities. It was
where they held the
“midget” car races. My grandpa used
to rent seat cushions for the races, then
my uncle and I would get paid in candy
from the snack bar for picking the seat
cushions up after the races. Mom and
I had matching “Mexican” dresses covered
in ric-rac. I often think about that year
and wondered why it never gets mentioned -- Sue Coleman
