MRS. WENDLING TURNS 104!

I am a Crawford graduate from 1976 and have been enjoying your FRY DAY emails for quite some time.  I’ve often thought I should send you an email in return to thank you for the clever and interesting information you share.  But today, I just had to write because of Bill Grantham’s Darnall Elementary school class photos.  My mother, Lucille Wendling, was his 5th grade teacher!  My mother turned 104 this past Wednesday (January 22, 2025).  If you can, please tell Bill that I shared this class photo from 1961 with my mother.  She was delighted!  She taught at Darnall and then later at Montezuma Elementary.  She’s now been retired longer than the 35 years she worked for San Diego City Schools!

Mrs. Wendling drew this portrait of me as a lesson in art.  She said I had a more mature face than most of the kids in class because my face was longer.  Looking back, she was my favorite teacher at Darnall — Bill Grantham
