Candace Pleasants Evans

April 6, 1954-January 18, 2002

Candace Pleasants Evans, our much-loved wife, mother and friend, passed away at Grossmont Hospital a week after unexpectedly suffering an aneurysm during minor surgery A San Diego native, Candace was born at Balboa Hospital and attended San Diego area schools. After graduating from Crawford she worked at Home Federal Savings and Loan for 10 years.

Candace met her future husband, Dave, at a Home Federal Christmas party in 1979 and they were married August 27, 1983 at the Methodist Church in Coronado. A dedicated wife, mother, and homemaker, Candace volunteered in her daughter's classrooms and was a tireless worker for the PTA and the Girl Scouts. With her vibrant smile, ready wit, and keen sense of humor, she was dearly loved by teachers, parents, and her daughter's friends, many of whom called her mom. Candace was a talented homemaker, gifted at crafts and pottery, and she was in her element running her household which included her beloved cats Ranger, Lilly, and Tia. In her free time she also enjoyed trips to the gym and Gulls games, and she was an avid reader, immersing herself in mysteries and fiction.

Candace is survived by Dave, her husband of 18 years; her daughter Laura, 13; her mother Esther Pleasants of Manteca; her uncle and aunt Bud and Lois Pleasants of El Cajon; two sisters; Barbara of Hawaii and Alena of Santa Barbara; aunt Irene Pleasants of Stockton; and numerous cousins in the San Diego area.

Rose Ve Zain McKnight

Rose, her husband and son all died in the mass suicide at Jonestown in Guyana on November 18, 1978. I remember talking to her mom at that time and she was upset because she couldn't find a way to get their bodies to be buried here. I think that she finally gave up on that. I looked up her name on the Jonestown site recently and found a picture of her there. What seemed so sad to me is that in that picture (I don't know when it was taken) she looked happier and healthier than I had ever seen her.
