I
KNEW NANCY WATSON WINGO WOULD go nuts --
once she got oriented -- when she saw this
1945 Howard Rozelle aerial. It looks
northwest across the intersection of 44th
and University, not far from where she
lived for a couple of years as a toddler.
As she of the encyclopedic memory is wont
to do, she started naming every business
along the way, starting with the Crest
Theater. That looks like Wilson Junior
High at the top of the photo, Central
Elementary at the left, and possibly
Rosary High School somewhere at the upper,
middle, right. I've included a page from
the 1954 City Directory for your
reference.

The intersection at the lower right is
43rd and University. The building on
the northwest corner is a Piggly Wiggly.
